MAKE SOMETHING YOU CAN FEEL

Let's make your patch.

Your design. A little dimension.

YOUR PATCH, TAKING SHAPE

A flat design. A whole new feel.

NO DESIGN EXPERIENCE NEEDED

A little raised, a lot of character.

“Raised” means parts of your design sit above the surface of the patch, so you can feel the letters, lines or shapes.

  1. Upload your design.A logo, drawing or text all work.
  2. Pick what stands out.Tap a color to raise it. Leave the rest flat.
  3. Make it yours.Choose a shape and size, then look around in 3D.
  4. Save it for printing.Download a PDF to give to your print operator.

The preview helps you design. The printer and material determine the finished height and texture.

FOR THE PRINT OPERATOR

The guided flow is ready to use without changing these. Confirm these settings for your MG-640 before production.

Color groups come from the visible artwork. Original named spot plates and vectors in uploaded PDFs are rasterized. Test the output in VersaWorks before production.

Your patch file is ready.

Your PDF download has started. Give it to your print operator to make your patch.

The operator will set the final raised height and check the material and cutting settings.

Why might the PDF colors look different?

The file includes special printing layers. A regular PDF viewer may show substitute colors for them. Your print operator will check the layers in the printer software.

ROLAND MG-640

From PDF to raised patch

This app prepares artwork and ink plates. Color selection groups the visible colors of rasterized artwork; it does not import original named PDF spot separations. The 3D preview uses the same raised mask as the PDF, with simulated height, material and lighting. It does not send jobs to the printer or set a physical embossing height.

  1. Check your material and ink setup. Gloss relief requires installed Gloss ink. White relief uses White ink and needs a separate, tested layer sequence. PU patch constructions and coatings vary; use settings supported by your media supplier and Roland dealer.
  2. Set the finished size before exporting. The entire uploaded artboard is included; empty margins are retained. PDF/SVG artwork is rasterized for editing, up to 3,000 pixels on the long edge. PDF imports use the selected page. Existing cut paths and original spot channels are not preserved; the app generates new ones.
  3. Inspect the ink plates in VersaWorks. Import the PDF at 100% scale. Check for RDG_GLOSS and/or RDG_WHITE under Special Items. Normal PDF viewers show substitute colors for these inks; those colors are not a color-print instruction. Artwork pixels use sRGB; set the RIP's RGB input profile to sRGB for the intended color interpretation.
  4. Choose the print sequence in your RIP. For a clear raised finish, print color/underbase and then Gloss using your supported special-effects workflow. Use the separate raised-plate export when your workflow requires another job; all exports retain exactly the same page size and alignment. For White-built relief under color, export the White relief plate separately and arrange the build and color passes in VersaWorks.
  5. Calibrate the raise. Where supported, use the Special Effects / Embossing mode and its overprint setting. Roland's embossing guide describes repeated matte passes followed by a gloss finish. Coverage percentages and rounded edges control ink amounts, not calibrated millimeters. The 3D height setting is a simulation, not a calibrated print instruction. Actual height depends on your printer, ink and passes.
  6. Check your contour. Cut lines are closed vector paths in the case-sensitive CutContour spot color, with a 0.25 pt stroke. Confirm VersaWorks recognizes them as cuts, not magenta printing. The artwork width stays unchanged; outward cut offset and a 1 mm safety margin enlarge the PDF page. Separate islands create separate patches; use an enclosing shape for one patch. Interior holes are ignored. Rounded and oval shapes may trim artwork corners; keep important details inside the line. Cut pressure, blade and number of cut passes must suit the PU material. No bleed is added automatically.
  7. Test before producing a batch. Verify plate recognition, registration, cured height, media clearance, adhesion, flexibility and your patch's intended finishing process. This export has not been physically validated on your printer.
